CHEMEXCIL was set up by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, in the year 1963 with the objective of promoting exports of dyes, inorganic and organic chemicals, cosmetics and lubricants among others, to various countries abroad. The Council comprises 4800 members, with exports of around USD 22 billion of chemical items under its purview. My motive of getting CHEMEXCIL appointed as a nodal agency for 'REACH Regulation', was to help member exporters to pre-register and register their products in EU countries. I have also effectively worked to include the reimbursement of 50% of ECHA registration fees to the Chemical exporters that was given only to Pharma based companies. I worked strenuously to provide 'Product Registration' for Agro Chemicals and also pioneered the Chemical Inventory Program which enhanced the working of the entire Chemical Industry. This program helps track the chemical inventory from beginning to end and addresses all of the special issues associated with storing, using, and disposing of hazardous materials.
As the Chairman at CHEMEXCIL, my work also includes:
1. Working with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to strategize promotions of exports that are under the purview of the Council.
2. Participating and contributing in high Level meetings such as Board of Trade, Sectoral Performance Review, Task Force, MAI.
3. Liaising and resolving grievances with the Industry and the Government of India to verbalize Export-oriented Policies for the member-exporters connected with DGFT,CBIC,GS, RBI, Environment, REACH.
4. Providing insights on drafting the Annual Action Plan for promotion of exports coming under its purview, covering Budget Proposals for participation in various international exhibitions and Buyer Seller Meets, that are held in India and abroad. Being an important stakeholder by providing important insights for Free Trade Agreements.
5. Working on building a stronger export portfolio by way of participating in leading international exhibitions held abroad. Establishing long term strategic alliances by inviting overseas delegations to India.
6. Providing direction and thrust to the council for capacity building seminars, workshops, interactive meetings on prevailing issues pertaining to DGFT, CBIC, GST, Banking, REACH etc.
7. Honouring exporters for their outstanding performance by organising Export Award functions with the Union Ministers. Chairman of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP), Lote Parshuram Environment Protection Co-operative Society Limited. CETP are treatment systems that are specifically designed for collective treatment of effluent generated from small-scale industrial facilities in an industrial cluster.
I have worked to bring INR 46 Cr. from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry for upgradation of Common Effluent Treatment Plants in Lote and Roha Industrial Areas in Maharashtra. Projects in the pipeline:
1. Received an approval for Zero Discharge in three Plants in Maharashtra worth INR 100 Cr. to run on PPP basis thereby providing support to all the industries in Maharashtra.
2. Working on a project to take treated effluent from industrial areas such as Tarapur, Taloja, Lote, Roha in Maharashtra to the deep sea for discharge. This project is worth INR 450 Cr. and is under final consideration by the Government of Maharashtra.
3. Initiated a project of Testing Analytical Laboratory costing INR 7 Cr., in the Lote Industrial Area for Small and Medium Scale Units under ASIDE scheme.
I firmly believe that Education is the key to transform and uplift the future of the country. With over 30 years of being a practicing entrepreneur, profound experience that comes with it, my expertise in the field of Pharma and Chemical, and finally my love to share it with the world, has been my inspiration to follow my academic pursuits.
I wholeheartedly and dedicatedly give lectures in prestigious institutions like IIM, Ahmedabad; Symbiosis International University, Pune; IIFT, Delhi on subjects related to business and entrepreneurship. This has given me immense joy and satisfaction while also helping students to get on the road and running.
In the ongoing COVID 19 Pandemic, we have actively made donations amounting to
